A remote meeting was held to discuss details of the scheme which will be implemented in coordination with representatives of the Geneva-based WHO, the regional headquarters for the Middle East and the WHO office in Bahrain.
Chairing Bahrain’s team, Health Ministry Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Dr. Mariam Al Hajeri welcomed Bahrain’s ranking for the implementation of the WHO plan to accelerate progress toward reducing obesity.
“The achievement reflects Bahrain’s keenness on promoting people’s health through the development of policies aimed to reduce the risk factors leading to non-communicable diseases, particularly obesity”, she said.
Dr. Buthaina Ajlan, Head of the Nutrition Department, on the Bahrain Nutrition Program, gave a presentation, highlighting Bahrain’s strategies and plans to eliminate obesity and the legislation and laws issued to support its implementation.
Dr. Dalal Al-Rumaihi, Consultant Endocrinologist and Diabetologist, Member of the National Committee for Noncommunicable Diseases and Member of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Diabetes Association gave a presentation in which she gave an overview of the role of the Bahrain Diabetes Association in reducing obesity rates among all age groups.
She shed light on the association’s activities and programs to eliminate obesity In cooperation with the Ministry of Health and other relevant authorities in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
